MONCOFFRE, Nathalie (France)
Born on the 4th August 1961, married, 3 children (born in 1992, 1995 and 2001) Research Director at CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) I participated to the SMMIB conference for the first time in 1984 in Heidelberg in Germany during my PHD and I am a member of the International committee of this conference since 1993. In 1986: PHD thesis, at Claude Bernard University, Lyon, France The title was: “Physico-chemical characterization of nitrogen implanted steels“ In 1995: Habilitation to manage PHD students (in french: HDR, Habilitation à diriger des Recherches).
Until 1995, my research field mainly concerned the modifications of materials (steels, ceramics) induced by ion beams, and the study of their surface properties (mainly mechanical and tribological). I have also developed some nuclear methods of analysis in order to follow the evolution of specific isotopes in the implanted surfaces and to understand the mechanisms of surface modifications. Since 1995, I study the behaviour of fission products and actinides in materials proposed for the storage of nuclear wastes in geological storage. Stable or radioactive elements representative of fission products are implanted in the studied materials and their diffusion is typically investigated by the coupling of ion implantation, nuclear methods of analysis and physicochemical characterisation. The actinide migration is studied in collaboration with the European institute ILL (Institut Laue Langevin), in Grenoble (France) using the high flux neutron reactor. In France, this research is of great interest for ANDRA (Agence Nationale pour la gestion des Déchets RAdioactifs) and EDF (Electricité de France). It is often performed in collaboration with CEA (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique).
She is the author and co-author of about 80 publications.
