LI, Hengde (China) Born 1921 in Luoyang, China. Took BS(1942) in Northwestern College of Engineering, China; MS(1947) in Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, and Ph.D.(1953) in University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Served as a professor in Tsinghua University in Beijing since 1955. Worked as Head of Department of Engineering Physics, Director of Research Institute of Materials of Tsinghua University; Director of Department of Materials and Engineering Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Elected 1994 as a Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Elected as President of C-MRS from 1986 to 1994, as President of IUMRS in 1999-2000.
