Q.Y. Zhang was born in Liaoning, P. R. China, in 1962. He received the physics degree from Nankai University, China, in 1984 and M. Sc. Degree from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Science in 1987. In 1998, He received his Ph.D degree in Atomic Physics and Nuclear Physics from Fudan University, P. R. China.

In 1987, he joined the Department of Physics, Dalian University of Technology, as a scientific researcher in the State Key Laboratory of Materials Modification by Laser, Ion and Electron Beams, which was built in 1992. In 1998, he became the professor of physics and materials science. His research interests are the characterization and modeling of film growth assisted by energetic beams and surface modification of materials modification by energetic beams.
